In principle, German nationals do not need a visa for tourist stays, which would have to be obtained before entering the country. Travelers are required to have a visa if they cannot prove their onward or return journey by means of a flight ticket or bus or train ticket. The permissible length of stay is determined by the immigration authorities upon arrival: for arrivals both by air and by land, a maximum stay of 30 days is permitted. A one-time extension of the visa-free stay by a further max. 30 days for tourism purposes only is possible. The visa extension must be applied for before the end of the permitted visa-free period of stay at the responsible Thai Immigration Bureau.
